What is God’s will for my life?  Believe it or not, God’s will for you is clearly and unmistakably found in the scriptures.  You couldn’t miss it unless you just weren’t looking for it.  When you ask, “What is God’s will for my life?” you have to look no further than your Bible and you will find it.  Now you may be thinking about God’s plan for your life.  However, until you are doing his will, you don’t really need to concern yourself with his plan.  There are many Christians who have lived their entire Christian lives out of the will of God and so they never have found his plan and they won’t until they are in His will.

God’s will for your life is to:

Be Saved – 2 Pet. 3:9, the Lord is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”  And because he is not willing that you should perish, his will is that you would be saved.  According to this verse, in order to be saved you must repent.  Simply, you repent of your own goodness or your own righteousness that you have been trusting to get you to heaven and you trust the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary, instead.  You turn from self-righteousness to Christ’s righteousness.  And when you do that you will also turn from those iniquities in your life that have separated between you and God [Is 59:2].

Witness – Acts 1:8, when you get saved, the Lord gives you the Holy Spirit who gives you the power to testify to others.  Since it is the will of God that not any should perish, then we are the ones who need to tell them.

Give Thanks – 1 Thes. 5:18, you are to be thankful in everything.  Too many people are complainers and gripers.  The Jews in the wilderness were not as thankful as they were discontent.  And yet it was the Lord who put them through the hardships in the wilderness to make them better.  They should have been thankful.  Instead, they complained and many of them died as a result.  Paul went through a lot more hardships than they ever did and he was always thankful.

Be Transformed – Rom. 12:1-2, that is you are to not be conformed to this world but rather to be transformed by the renewing of your mind and to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.  Modern Christians are so conformed to the world that by staying in their worldly churches they will never be able to see this transformation.

Live Holy – 1 Thes 4:3-7, that is you are supposed to be sanctified, abstain from fornication and live a holy life.  The Lord doesn’t want you fornicating before you are married; yet many of today’s Christians see nothing wrong with this.  It is against the will of God.  Forget trying to find his plan until you are doing his will.

Submit to Authority – 1 Pet. 2:13-15, that is you are to obey the ordinances of men, unless they contradict the clear will of God (Acts 4:19-20; 5:29).  If you aren’t going to obey the men you see how are you ever going to obey the Lord you cannot see?  Men and women today hate the word “submit.”  Yet, submitting to the proper authorities in your life IS the will of God.

Serve Others – Eph. 6:5-8, that is you are to serve others as if you were serving the Lord Jesus Christ, himself.  You find the plan of God along the path of fulfilling the will of God in service to others.

Conclusion: When you find yourself doing these things in your life according to God’s revealed will in the words of God then you will be in the will of God.  From there you can find the plan of God.
