What profiteth the graven image?  According to God it profits nothing!!!  Is 44:9-10

So why do men make them?

For money – According to man graven images profit – Acts 19:23-28; Rev 18:11-15

For worship – Acts 19:27; 35; the antichrist will use one to draw attention to himself and away from God – Rev 13 – this is the abomination of desolation Matt 24 – Nebuchadnezzar did the same thing – Dan 3

For a memorial – Absalom made one by which people would remember him – 2 Sam 18:18 – like Ps 49:11-13

Additional comments – In the end though they are the invention of men and so – Ps 135:15-18 – they end up dumb like their idols – Is 46:5-7 – they must be carried by men – 1 Sam 5:2-5 – and they will fall down in the presence of the Lord

The men that make them are the teachers of LIES – amazing testimony of the Lord – Ex 32:4 is a good example – the gods were a lie and the man that made them was a liar – Ex 32:20; 32:24 – see 2 Thes 2:9

The graven image is not only incapable of speech [19] but it is dumb in that it cannot prophesy – 1s 48:4-7
