Harlotry Proverbs 7: 1-27

Harlotry Prov. 7: 1-27 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Prov 7 does a thorough job of clearly defining and describing harlotry.  You aren’t going to like the description because many who do not consider themselves harlots are described here.  Before examining the text you need to understand that a woman who gives up her virginity before marriage is considered by GOD to be a whore – Deut 22:14, 20-2.  She does not have to prostitute herself for money; she simply has to lie with a man to whom she is not married.  So, with that said, let’s get right into it.  Harlotry is predominately:

Aimed at youth 7 – 2 Tim 2:22 – because they are void of understanding – so look what’s happened in school (high school and college).  Day care centers are provided on campus, condoms are distributed, etc.  The way to avoid this is by arming yourself with wisdom – see verses 1-5.

Practiced at night 9 – under the cover of darkness Ps 74:20 – therefore bars are dark, the shades are pulled, the windows are tinted – good to have early curfews for kids – many disastrous occurrences of harlotry occur late at night – By the way God sees it all day or night.

Associated with dress 10 – the attire of an harlot – this doesn’t mean that she was one when she dressed that way but that she looked like one – kids today dress like Hollywood and like the fashion magazines – they show the belly and the tattoos in provocative places, they wear shirts four sizes too small and they wear make up to make themselves look 5 years older than they are – they make themselves look attractive (and smell attractive – v.17 perfume) so that they can catch the attention of young men – well that’s what a harlot does – so 1 Tim 2:9, 1 Pet 3:1-4.

Started by a kiss 13 – the affection of romance is best left for marriage Heb 13:4, 1 Cor 7:1 – from a kiss to the bedroom is not a long way – unmarried people dating need to limit their physical contact.

Advanced by flattery 5, 15, 21 – to meet THEE – you’re the man – a woman can make you feel like you are the best there is and then when she has caught you she can use that same mouth to destroy you – v.11.

Mistaken for love 18 – it is not love, it is lust, it is the fulfillment of a very basic carnal desire – love is far greater than anything that can be satisfied by sexual involvement.

Equated with adultery 19-20 – this woman is a married woman and is not satisfied to wait for the return of her husband – she is on the prowl for another man – this is so common in corporate and military America – secretaries with their bosses – she shares no responsibilities with the other man so it is all too easy to get involved.

Concluded by death and damnation 22-27 – Rom 6:23, Deut 22:22-24 (exception 28-29) and Rom 1:32 (29) in the New Testament – notice that strong men succumb to this temptation, too (David and Samson to name a couple of men who fell for this).

Conclusion: This sin is destroying our youth and our nation and the fashion magazines, cosmetics companies, clothing stores, and Hollywood are big contributors to their fall all for the sake of $$.
