When we get saved our lives go through a process of sanctification and growth.  This process is typified in Hezekiah’s reign.  Hezekiah’s reign is like the Christian life in that when you get saved, you must:

Get rid of the filthiness in your heart – 2 Chr 29:5 – Hezekiah ordered that the Levites carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.  Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost and we must get the filthiness out of our hearts and minds.  2 Chr 29:16

Assemble with fellow believers – 2 Chr 30:1, 6-9, 13 – Hezekiah sent to Israel to keep the passover.  We are to go to church.  And when you get together make sure it is with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth [1 Cor 5:8].

Separate from the sins of the world – 2 Chr 31:1 – after the passover, Israel brake the images, cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars.  There are outside influences in your life that must go… certain friends with whom you associate, certain websites that you visit, certain material that you read, certain things you consume, certain places that you go, certain things that you watch, etc.

Start giving to the Lord’s work – 2 Chr 31:4-6 – Hezekiah commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give.  When we get saved and get in church, we are to give.  For God loveth a cheerful giver.

Find the place of your service – 2 Chr 31:16, 20-21 – everyone has a place of service.  Some pray, some clean, some witness, some teach, some sing, some minister to others [Wednesday night prayer meeting praises were about how we minister to each other], some go, etc.

Prepare yourself for battle – 2 Chr 32:1-2 – after Hezekiah accomplished all this in Jerusalem and Judah, he was attacked by Sennacherib.  When you set yourself for the work of the Lord, you will be attacked, as well.  But as the Lord intervened and fought for Judah so the Lord will fight for you when you stand to fight for him [2 Chr 32:21].

Beware of pride – 2 Chr 32:25-26 – when the Lord had taken care of Hezekiah and had given him 15 more years of life, Hezekiah’s heart was lifted up in pride.  This was revealed in 2 Chr 32:31.  Likewise, when we see how good the Lord is to us, it is easy to get lifted up in pride.  We must remain humble. A man who is all the way down can’t fall.

Conclusion: the reign of Hezekiah is very instructive for us because it gives a clear illustration of what we must do in our lives as future kings of the Lord.
