How to Have Peace

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”.

Introduction: This week I have come across many people going through different situations in life, from health problems, to job changes, to problems at home, and I’ve noticed that people don’t have peace. They are unsettled and can’t seem to get the peace that they need in order to make the decision that they have to make.

We have peace by:

I. Justification– Romans 5:1/ 6-9. A saved person has peace with God by their faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

• By justification we have been saved from the wrath of God Vs 9, Jesus justified us meaning (I was judged and found not guilty). If your lost, you need to get saved in order to have this kind of peace were talking about here.

II. Loving God’s Word– Psalm 119:165 “Great peace have they which love thy law”. Christians today are giving up peace in their lives for other things that have taken the place of God’s Word.

• “Not as the world giveth”. People find peace in attractions, games, fellowships, new job, new car, more money, a garden., etc. but none of those will satisfy as the Word of God can.

• Read it, study it, meditate in it, learn from it, be transformed by it, look forward to reading it and get something from it, Love the Word of God and you will have peace.

III. Praying About Everything– Philippians 4:6-7 “but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. And the peace of God..”

• Christians today miss this kind of peace from God simply because they don’t pray about EVERYTHING. We pray about the big stuff and keep the little things which end up becoming big things later.

• Or because they pray about it but don’t hand it over and leave it with God. Christians take back those problems. “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”. Jesus Christ said not to let our heart be troubled neither let it be afraid, If we are, it’s because we have allowed our circumstances to dictate our feelings instead of allowing God’s Word to rule in our hearts.

IV. Being Spiritually Minded– Romans 8:5-9 “but to be spiritually minded is life and peace”.

• What you set your affections to do, that is what you will do. Watch TV, movies, radio, computer, etc., or Reading our Bible and walking/fellowshipping with God.

• To be carnally minded is death but the key is to be spiritually minded, in it you find life and peace. Isn’t true that the closer we are to God the less we fret about life and circumstances, and the farther away we get, the more we are shaken, stressed, panicking, nervous, anxious.

• Read the Bible, listen to hymns, songs, and spiritual songs, be in church, listen to preaching, stay close to God.

V. Staying your mind upon God- Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind in stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee”.

• In order to have perfect peace, we have to keep our mind on God for everything. Don’t trust the news, media, rumors, etc., stick with God. Trusting in these outlets, will keep us doubting and wondering if God is really in complete control.

• We have to know that trusting God is the best thing for our lives, and that will keep us in perfect peace.

Conclusion: If you want to have Biblical peace in your life, and you are born again, Love God’s Word, Prayabout everything, Be Spiritually Minded, and have your Mind stay upon God.

Don’t get side tracked and don’t settle for the peace this World offers, it doesn’t compare.
