Isaiah 44:1-28 The Superiority of God to Idols

The Superiority of God to Idols Is. 44:1-28 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

The superiority of God to idols is seen in all of the following capacities:

Creation – Is 44:2, 24 – idols are man-made; and we are God-made – Acts 17:24-29

Assurance – Is 44:2 – with idols you have superstition [Acts 17:22], ignorance [Acts 17:23, 30], and fear [Is 44:2] – with the Lord you do not have fear [2 Tim 1:7] because the Lord hath not given us the spirit of fear.

Provision – Is 44:3-5 – idols cannot provide rain or spirit [Jer 14:22] – the Lord provides both [Joel 2:28-29; Jn 7:37-39].

Preeminence – Is 44:6 – idols have a beginning and an end – the Lord is the first and the last and the only God [1 Cor 8:5-6].

Prophecy – Is 44:7-8 – idols obviously cannot prophesy – the Lord gives a prophecy in this passage concerning the rebuilding of Jerusalem even before Jerusalem is destroyed and then gives an intervening prophecy concerning Cyrus nearly 200 years beforehand [Is 44:26-28; 2 Chr 36:22-23].  The Jews can assuredly witness that there is no God beside the Lord!!

Production – Is 44:9-20 – the idol is made by man out of the same tree by which he warms himself and feeds himself – his idol is made to look like man – the Lord, on the other hand, made us to look like him [Gen 1:26-27; Rom 8:29; Phil 3:21].  The result of this idolatry is spiritual blindness [Is 44:18] – his idol is a lie and his heart is deceived [Is 44:20].  The Lord, by contrast, is TRUTH [Jn 14:6].

Redemption – Is 44:21-23 – there is no redemption with idols; only self-righteousness – with the Lord, however, there is plenteous redemption [Ps 130:7-8].  This passage is fulfilled at the Second Coming of Jesus [Jer 31:31-34] at which time all creation will be singing [Is 49:13].

Conclusion: Is 44:25-26 – the Lord frustrates the tokens of liars and confirms his word and performs it, instead.  Therefore, follow the Lord or else remain a fool.
