In Isaiah 55, the Lord shows us several things about everlasting life, from Israel’s perspective.  In this passage we see:

The Provisions of everlasting life – Is 55:1-2 – nourishing water, wine, milk and bread – all freely provided and all good and satisfying – these are comparable to the water of life and the bread of life freely provided [Jn 4:10-14; Jn 6:35; Jn 7:37-39; Rev 22:17].

The Protection of everlasting life – Is 55:3-4 – the everlasting covenant of the sure mercies of David – 2 Sam 7:12-17; Ps 89:20-37; Acts 13:32-34 – it is from this covenant that we derive eternal security in the New Testament [Jn 5:24, 6:37].

The Providence of everlasting life – Is 55:5 – the LORD God, the Holy One of Israel – it is to the Lord in Israel, when they are glorified, that the nations will run to see God [Zech 8:20-23].

The Promise of everlasting life – Is 55:6-7 – when any man turns to the Lord and forsakes his way and his thoughts, the Lord will have mercy on him and the Lord will pardon him – this is the promise of God – Rom 10:13; 1 Tim 2:3-6; 2 Pet 3:9.

The Preeminence of everlasting life – Is 55:8-9 – the Lord’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways are higher than our ways – thus everlasting life is far superior to temporal life [see Mk 8:34-38].

The Power of everlasting life – Is 55:10-11 – the power is in the word of God – as rain and snow cause the earth to bring forth life so the word of God brings forth everlasting life [Jas 1:21; 1 Pet 1:23] – that’s why it is so important for us to sow the seed of the word of God – it does not return to the Lord void – it accomplishes what he pleases and it prospers in the thing whereto he sends it.

The Product of everlasting life – Is 55:12-13 – everlasting life produces joy, peace, singing among the mountains, clapping among the trees, and the restoration of creation – when the fir tree and the myrtle tree come up instead of the thorn and the brier these will be an everlasting sign – Israel will, from that day forward, have everlasting life [Rom 11:25-27; Jer 31:31-34].

Conclusion: those of us who are saved now enjoy the provisions, protection, and product of everlasting life and for our God we must preach the promise, preeminence and power of everlasting life that others might be saved!!
