Kings Prov. 16:10 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Prov 16:10, 12-15 “A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.  It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.  Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.  The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.  In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.”

All of this has to be about the Lord Jesus Christ – and since Jesus sets the pattern all kings should follow that pattern – Rom 13 shows us that all earthly authority comes from God –

You can evaluate the quality of a king based upon these things:

HIS SENTENCE – v.10 – The king’s sentence is as the Lord’s – Rom 13 – even Nebuchadnezzar’s attack against Jerusalem was a divine sentence – Solomon ordered the death of Adonijah, Shimei, and Joab, and he rendered the decision on the baby that lived.

HIS CONDUCT – v.10 – The throne is established by righteousness – so the king is supposed to be right – it is abominable for the king to commit wickedness [i.e., David and Bathsheba, Solomon and idols, Uzziah and the priesthood, Jeroboam and the priesthood] – to use his throne to make himself wealthy is an abuse – to overstep his power and kill millions to get more power is an abuse – etc – NO WAY!!

HIS AUDIENCE – v. 13 – They love and delight in those that speak right – kings don’t like finding out later that they have been misled or lied to – consider Ahasuerus and Mordecai vs. Haman – consider David and Ahithophel because Ahithophel spoke as the oracles of God – Ahab should have loved Micaiah but he hated him because Ahab was wicked – he should have loved Elijah but he called him his enemy because he was wicked.

HIS WRATH – v.14 – When you get on a king’s bad side you die – Ahasuerus ordered Haman’s death – Esther pacified the king’s wrath.

HIS FAVOR – v.15 – When you get on a king’s good side you live [Shimei was spared by David after David returned from exile] – we gain favor with God through Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: All of these attributes are true of the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Kings – he will determine the sentence of every human being whether they are justified or condemned.  The sentence will be based upon whether you have the righteousness of Jesus Christ.  Do you?
