I’m convinced that one of the main reasons so many people are so far from God and so many young Christians are turning from God is that they have no knowledge of God. They use the name God when they talk about him. And they talk like they know him. Israel said, “My God, we know thee”, Hos 8:2. But Hos 4:1 “the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land”.
The trouble in the USA is like the trouble in Israel. They don’t have a clue who God is. They know nothing about his ways or his thoughts or his fear or his love.
They are not going to find God in the places where they are spending their time. Rom 11:33 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out”.
God reveals himself to those who read and believe what he said. Deut 29:29 those things which are revealed belong unto us. 1 Cor 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
They are not going to find the knowledge of God by practicing their religions. The religious approach to God is through religious works and ritual. But God desires the knowledge of God. Hos 6:6 “For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings”.
If we just look at what we’re doing here as Baptist religious practice, we will not know God. Many in church don’t know him. 1 Cor 15:34 “for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame”.
Listen, the people who don’t know God aren’t making any effort to know him. First, you start with this… Prov 2:1-5. You must put some effort into knowing him. When you do, Prov 2:5 says, “Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God”. This comes from a thorough study and belief of the scriptures.
And then you must get the wrong imaginations out of your head. 2 Cor 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.
And you can never plateau. Col 1:10 “and increasing in the knowledge of God”.
The added benefits of knowing God are the two main things we need, Grace and Peace. 2 Pet 1:2 says, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord”.
You will discover hat Paul wrote in Rom 11:33 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God”! You will discover the immeasurable depth of the riches of the knowledge of God”.
