Laborers in the Harvest
In Matt 9:37, when Jesus was moved with compassion at the sight of the multitude, he said, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. How are we going to change this? To get more laborers in the harvest, we must:
Pray up – Matt 9:38. Jesus said, Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. Where is this prayer request on your regular prayer list? If it’s not there, then add it and start praying for this daily.
Wake up – Prov 6:6-11, without a guide, overseer, or ruler, ants gather their food in the harvest. The reason that some of us are not laborers in the harvest is that we are sleeping in harvest, Prov 10:5. In Rom 13:11, Paul told us to awake out of sleep. In Eph 5:14 Paul wrote, awake thou that sleepest. We don’t need an organized program (no guide, overseer, or ruler) to be laborers in the harvest. We need to wake up.
Look up – Jn 4:35, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. All over the world and right in your own back yard there is a harvest. We must look up and see the souls of people where we can sow and reap a harvest.
Get up – Prov 20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold. You must plow in the cold if you hope to gather in the summer, Prov 10:5. The reason there are not more laborers in the harvest is that men’s hearts are cold and less people are willing to plow in that ground in order to sow the seed of the words of God.
Wise up – Prov 10:5, He that gathereth in summer is a wise son. Like Prov 11:30 says, he that winneth souls is wise. The more you labor in the harvest the more wisdom you will have about sowing and reaping in the harvest. The best farmers weren’t as wise when they started farming as they are today.
The one thing laborers in the harvest experience that keeps them laboring in the harvest is that there is joy in harvest, Is 9:3. In harvest, there is joy here and there is joy hereafter, 1 Thes 2:19. Pray up, wake up, look up, get up, and wise up and become one of the Lord’s laborers in the harvest.
