A Matter of Perception Job 9:11 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
You say that perception is reality, but it isn’t if reality is not your perception. Most of the time, how you view a thing is just a matter of perception. Today, we examine from the Bible those things that diminish your perception and those things that enhance it.
Things that diminish your perception
Human Limitations – Job 9:11; Is 64:4; Deut 29:29 – you will never perceive heaven or the origin of life by observation – your eyesight and knowledge are limited.
Alcohol [drugs] – Gen 19:33, 35
Unbelief – Deut 29:4, 8:3 – the woman at the well perceived that Jesus was the Messiah; many of the Pharisees never did – the difference is that she believed him and they didn’t.
Spiritual Blindness – Israel, Deut 29:4; Is 6:9-10; Heb 8:10-11 – a vail is upon their heart, 2 Cor 3:15-16.
Hypocrisy – Lk 6:41-42 – you always criticize in others the thing that is the problem in your own life.
Things that enhance your perception
Belief in God’s words – Lk 24:25-27 – when you believe what God wrote, then it is much easier to understand what he said – too many people that argue about the Bible don’t believe it in the first place.
Knowledge of God’s ways – Neh 6:10-13 – when you know God’s ways you can tell when someone is lying about something God did or said.
Wisdom – Prov 1:2, like Solomon had.
Discernible Facts – Jos 22:31, Jud 6:22, 1 Sam 3:8, etc – rather than perceiving by your emotions, why don’t you look at ALL the facts – they will sharpen your perception.
Spiritual Insight – Mk 2:8, 1 Cor 2:11 – the ability of your human spirit to discern things in another human – the better your insight, the better your perception.
