Most Men Will Proclaim Everyone His Own Goodness Prov. 20: 6

Proclaiming His Own Goodness Prov 20:6  CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

When put on the spot, most men will proclaim everyone his own goodness.  This is ultimately when a man will profess his self-righteousness.  A faithful man, on the other hand, will proclaim the righteousness of Christ.

Examples of men who proclaim their own goodness:

The Pharisee who fasted twice in a week, Lk 18:10-14

Job, when pressured by his friends, Job 31:1-40; 40:3-5; 42:4-6

Sinners when discussing the judgment, “good people go to heaven”

A faithful man, on the other hand, will believe what God has to say about him:

Paul said, There is none good, Rom 3:10

Jesus asked, Why callest thou me good, Lk 18:19 – the point here is that Jesus is good because he is God – the rich ruler didn’t believe Jesus is God – as a result he had no business calling him good.

Solomon said, There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not, Ecc 7:20

Paul counted his righteousness as dung, Phil 3:8

Isaiah said, All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, Is 64:6

Paul said of sinners, Of whom I am chief, 1 Tim 1:15

Conclusion: God is faithful 1 Cor 10:13; 1 Jn 1:9 – Jesus is God – Jesus is faithful [Rev 19:11] – when you find him and receive him, you will be good – you will have his righteousness [2 Cor 5:21] and his goodness [Gal 5:22-23].  Most men will proclaim everyone his own goodness; only a Christian can profess that his goodness comes from God.
