Mother of Jesus Luke 1:26-47

What sort of woman did God choose to be the mother of his Son?  Be that kind of mother if you want to be the best you can be.  She was:

A Virgin – Luke 1:27 – she kept herself for her husband.  Remain pure.  Wait until you are married.  Flee youthful lusts; flee fornication.  If you wait, you will be very careful whom you marry.  You won’t be inclined to leave. God judges whoremongers and adulterers [Heb 13:4].  If you haven’t saved yourself, then do so from now on.

Espoused to a Good Man – Luke 1:27 – Joseph was a God-fearing man, Matt 1:20, 24-25, Lk 2:41.  He did what the angel told him to do.  He was a family man.  Mk 6:3 he and Mary had four sons and at least two daughters.  Lk 2:51-52 he was a good father who kept his family in subjection.  He was a working man, Matt 13:55, Mk 6:3.  He had the character to work and support his family.

Favoured by the Lord – Luke 1:28-30 – you’re not going to find favor with the Lord by seeking favor with your peers.  Your peers are fickle and worldly.  She sought to please God and as a result she gained favor with him.  He’s the only one that matters, anyway.  Spend time with him on your knees and in his Book.

Willing to Live by Faith – Luke 1:37-38, 45 – “for with God nothing shall be impossible.”  “Be it unto me according to thy word.”  “Blessed is she that believed.”  Zacharias, on the other hand, was made “dumb” because he didn’t believe, Lk 1:20.  Living by faith is simply trusting God.  She believed the angel and trusted that she would conceive as a virgin.  Living by faith is living according to what the Bible says.  This is a book that, when you believe what it says, works supernaturally in you to accomplish what it says.  We live “by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Willing to Humble Herself and Get Saved – Luke 1:46-47 – “she magnified the Lord” and she “rejoiced in God [her] Saviour.”  She was not immaculately conceived.  She needed a Saviour.  Despite being chosen to be the mother of the Messiah, she humbled herself and was saved.   Despite being a good woman with a good family, you need to be saved if you have not trusted Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: Mary is the example that you want to follow.  Remain pure.  Wait for a good man.  Find favour with the Lord.  Live by faith.  And get saved if you are currently lost.
