We’re getting ready to start a new year.  It’s now that people generally start making new year resolutions.  Since there are some new things we get with salvation, there are some new things we should be doing with our salvation.

When you get saved you are a New Creature in Christ [2 Cor 5:17].  Old things are passed away.  All things are become new.  Through faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ you can be saved and become a new creature in Christ.  

As a new creature in Christ you should resolve to: 

Put on the New Man – Eph 4:22-24.  Put off the old man and put on the new man.  Walk in newness of life [Rom 6:4].  Stop something the old man has been doing and start doing something the new man should be doing.  The Lord gives you some good ideas in Eph 4:25-32.  Pick one thing and do it.

Enter by the New Way – Heb 10:20 (see verses 19-25).  Because we have a new way through the Lord Jesus Christ: 

• we should start spending more time with God.  We have the  boldness to enter into the holiest which we could not have done before the death of Jesus Christ.  So, we should draw nearer to God (verses 19-22).  
• we should start spending more time with God’s people.  Paul said that we should consider one another to provoke unto love and good works and we should assemble together (verses 24-25).  Start spending more time with God’s people and less time with the world.  We edify each other.

Sing a New Song – Ps 40:3 (see verses 1-5).  Really start praising the Lord every day and in every way for all that he has done.  This will lift your spirits more than anything else you can do.  The little nit-picky things that consume your thoughts will vanish when you start singing more praises to the Lord.  

Love your New City – Rev 21:2 (see verses 1-5).  Set your affection on things above [Col 3:1-4].  Quit worrying about how things are unfolding down here in the world.  Things have never been ideal and they surely aren’t going to get better.  Rather than trying to make the world a better place to live, why don’t you try to get more people to join us in our heavenly city.  

Conclusion: these are resolutions we should all make and these are resolutions we can all keep.  Devote some attention to making these happen this year.
