One In Christ John 17: 20-26 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Jesus Christ mentions several times in this passage that He wants believers to be one just as He and the Father are one. However, he doesn’t want us to join the ecumenical movement. When we are saved we are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ and we are thus one in Him. However, there are professing Christians who are lost, though they profess to be saved. You aren’t going to be one with them. And it is impossible to be one with professing Christians who hold doctrinal differences and errors. The Apostle Paul even foretold of this situation and issued a prescription (Acts 20:30, Rom. 16:17, Titus 1:13). We cannot compromise true Bible doctrine for the sake of unity. We are to yield to the Holy Spirit and conform to Jesus Christ, not the other way around.
When someone who is saved, has fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and submits himself to straight Bible doctrine meets someone who is like-minded, those two people are going to be as one.
