The Bible will tell you more about the current situation in your country today than five political science books and a working knowledge of current events. This one verse shows us that beyond question or any shadow of doubt our political system in the U.S.A. is in this day going to fail. It is a failure by its very design. The Bible makes clear in this verse that if a man has to raise money to get into office he is going to overthrow the land because he is receiving gifts. The gitfts will affect his ability to judge. He cannot establish proper judgments when he is beholden to those who contributed the resources and influence that allowed him to gain his position.

Political campaigns spend well over one billion dollars to help get a candidate elected. Obviously there are some people that want very badly to see their candidate get into office in order to spend such an exorbitant amount of money. Undo influence is now gained by wealthy donors and special interests. The question is, “How is a man, or woman, going to judge justly if he has required that kind of money and received those kinds of gifts from people who may not want him to judge justly and rightly?” The donors are usually more interested in whether he is judging in their favor rather than whether he is doing right. The elected official is not going to judge to establish the land, but rather he is going to judge in answer to his political donors. This type of elected official will eventually be overthrowing the land with his judgment.

Jethro, the father in law of Moses, gave instruction to Moses on how to choose able men in order to establish the land (Exodus 18:19-21).  We should be choosing men with the following qualities:

Men that fear God

Men of truth

Men that hate covetousness

Men that shall do no unrighteousness in judgment – (Leviticus 19:15)
