The Path of Life, Ps 16:7-11

In Ps 16:11, David wrote, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life”.  Today, we are going to discuss this path.

The Lord Will Shew You the Path of Life When You:

Follow His Counsel, Ps 16:7.  David wrote, “I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel”.  David had Nathan, Gad, Ahithophel, and Hushai as his counselors and they helped him walk the path God had planned for him.  Likewise, the Lord has given you a pastor and wise godly counselors to help you walk in his path.

Follow His Instruction, Ps 16:7.  David said, “my reins also instruct me in the night seasons”.  When you read God’s words and meditate on them, they will be fresh in your mind and in your spirit when you rest at night.  In the time of no distraction, the Lord’s words will instruct you in the direction he would have you to go.

Follow His Lead, Ps 16:8.  David wrote, “I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved”.  When you walk with the Lord, you can follow his lead.  Keep him before you and at your right hand.  He will help you to not veer into a way that he doesn’t want you to go.

When You Are on the Path of Life:

Your heart is glad, Ps 16:9.  David wrote, “Therefore my heart is glad”.  You have a deep satisfaction when you walk along the path of life with the Lord.  And your heart misses this gladness when you veer.

Your glory rejoices, Ps 16:9.  David wrote, “and my glory rejoiceth”.  We have the Lord’s glory while we walk along with him.  Jesus prayed in Jn 17:22, “The glory which thou gavest me I have given them that they may be one, even as we are one”.  When you walk with Jesus, you rejoice to be in the company and fellowship of other believers with whom you are one in Christ.  You love being in church together.  When you don’t love being here, the trouble is with your walk, not with your brethren.

Your flesh rests in hope, Ps 16:9.  David wrote, “my flesh also shall rest in hope”.  Christians who are not walking with the Lord are distressed and anxious and they don’t sleep well at night.  When you are following the Lord, your flesh rests even when you go through deep valleys, like Jesus did at Calvary, Ps 16:10.

When You Arrive at Your Destination:

You have fulness of joy, Ps 16:11.  David wrote, “in thy presence is fulness of joy”.  Along the path of life, we eventually arrive in heaven.  And when we are with the Lord we will have the fulness of joy in his presence forever.

You have pleasures for evermore, Ps 16:11.  David wrote, “at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore”.  Notice that we walk here with the Lord at our right hand to strengthen us.  And in heaven we are on the Lord’s right hand.  And there we have his pleasures for evermore.  The devil presents his pleasures of sin to you at the beginning.  And it is all down hill from there.  The Lord keeps the best for last and for ever.

Conclusion

If you are walking with the Lord on the path of life, be encouraged to stay on his path.  If you have veered from it, get back on it.  And if you haven’t been saved yet, and you want to get on his path, then trust Jesus today to save you today.  And then start walking with him.
