Prayer Promises John 16:23-24 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In this lesson we’re going to look at a prayer promise in the Bible. Then we’re going to show you some people who took God up on His promise and received what they were praying for.

”Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” – John 16:23

God says if you ask Him in Jesus’ name, then He will do it (Matt. 7:7-9, Mark 11:24). In these verses God gives us an absolute promise. He does not say maybe; He says that He will do it. It is a prayer promise, not a prayer hope. If you do not believe that God will deliver on His promise then why bother talking to Him in the first place? (John 14:13-14)

When the Disciples were told by the Council not to preach the Gospel they prayed to God for the boldness to keep preaching and God gave them the boldness to continue to preach (Acts 4:29-31). Cornelius was an unsaved man, but he faithfully prayed to God always and God answered his prayers and brought him to salvation (Acts 10:2). When the Disciples had need of something, they prayed to God and he provided: Peter’s safety and release, Acts 12:12, successful missionary work, 13:3-4, safety from shipwreck, Acts 27:25, 35, etc.

However, it needs to be understood that God may not answer your prayer in the way that you expect. He may give you something better than what you asked for (2 Cor. 12:8), although at first it may seem that He has neglected to answer your prayer. If what you pray for is not in your best interest or contrary to God’s word then God may refuse your prayer request. God will only fulfill your request if it meets His criteria which were explained in the previous lesson. But if you do as God has commanded then He will do as you have asked. He has basically provided you with a blank check if you will follow His guidelines.
