Praying Always For You CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Paul’s statement to the Colossians, Praying always for you, describes his prayer life. It was normal for him to pray everyday and when he did he included these folks in his prayers. He wasn’t urgent and he wasn’t neglectful. He was consistent and regular!
This verse can help us pray better if we will think about its implications. For many of us, our prayer lives are sporadic and volatile. When things are going well, we neglect prayer. When things are tough, we are crying out in fear and agony. To remedy this roller-coaster prayer life of highs and lows, we need to develop a normal prayer life so that we are always on familiar ground with the Lord when we’re praying.
One of the things that can help us is to simultaneously develop a normal and balanced Christian life. So much of the time, we are running from one crisis to the other and so we don’t even know what it’s like to live a balanced life. The “bubble” never stops in the middle to let us know when we can rest in prayer with God.
Start eliminating the things that are pulling you from urgency to urgency until you are centered in Christ and then stay in prayer to keep yourself balanced. That’s when you’ll know personally the peace of God that passeth all understanding, the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God that gives you strength when you are weak.
If prayer can’t get you centered then you will know that there is something else going on in your life that needs to “go.” Phil 3:15 says, “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” If you will ask the Lord, he will show you where the problem is or where the problems are to bring you back into balance.
