Praying for Health 2 Kings 20: 1-7 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
In 2 Ki 20:1-7, Hezekiah was sick unto death. He prayed that God would extend his life and Isaiah announced to him that God added 15 years to his life. Then Isaiah ordered that a lump of figs be placed on Hezekiah’s boil and he was healed.
We are often requested to pray for the health of others. Here are some good things that you can pray for specifically:
Pray for their spiritual health – 2 Ki 20:5 – the Lord said, “behold, I will heal thee.” Pray for their healing. Even though Jesus does not heal everyone in the church age like he did during his earthly ministry to Jerusalem, he does still heal. Pray for God’s grace to strengthen them in their weakness. Pray for their comfort, their peace, their joy and their understanding. Pray for their caregiver’s peace, strength, comfort and compassion. Pray for God to be glorified in their sickness and/or recovery.
Pray for their medical health – 2 Ki 20:7 – “Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.” Pray for their doctor(s) to have wisdom, understanding and skill so that they can properly and fully diagnosis the problem and come up with the best and most appropriate medical solution.
Pray for their nutritional health – 1 Sam 30:11-13 – people need wisdom about their nutritional health. Often they are misinformed about or uninterested in proper nutrition. And commonly the speed and fulness of their recovery is going to be affected by their nutrition. Also pray for the Lord to give them the provision to afford what is necessary for their proper nutritional health.
Pray for their physical health – 1 Cor 9:25-27 – people need rest when they are dealing with health issues. Pray for them to understand the sources of their stress and how to manage stress in their lives. Pray for them to be wise about exercise and rehabilitation. Pray that they will follow the doctors orders to recover.
Pray for their mental/emotional health – Prov 18:14 – often people become depressed and distressed when they are dealing with health concerns. Pray that the Lord will give them a healthy spirit sufficient to sustain their infirmity.
Conclusion: there are many components of your health. And each of these can and should be covered in prayer.
