When the apostles first began preaching the word, they were under severe persecution. By Acts 8:3-4, Stephen had just been stoned and Saul was making havoc of the church. Nevertheless, they kept preaching and spreading the gospel. We should follow the pattern of the early church.
Notice, from whom Saul haled, who was preaching the word.
Every house – Acts 8:3. When Paul made havoc of the church, he entered into every house. Thus, the preaching was not limited to just the apostles or the preachers. There were people in every house who were spreading the gospel. You are some of the most effective preachers of the gospel because you are “one of them”.
Everybody – Acts 8:3. Notice that men and women were haled and committed to prison. Why did Saul arrest and imprison the women? Because they were preaching the word, too. We are obviously against women pastors, but we’re not against women preaching the gospel to the lost. Many of you have been used of the Lord to lead others to Christ.
Every where – Acts 8:4. They that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word. No matter where you are, you can preach the word to the lost. In effect, we are scattered. We come here from different cities and from all over Corpus Christi.
Conclusion: One of the best ways to do this work now is to give New Testaments for Christmas. In Ps 68:11, “The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those that published it”. Go to your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family. Give them a box of chocolate for the body and the marked New Testament for the the soul. Open the Bible and explain the gospel and the marked verses. Lord willing, the door will open for you to witness to them.
