Read Your Bible

Read your Bible

Reading your Bible is the most important thing for a Christian to do. “…man doth not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.”[Deu.8:3] God speaks to you when you read your Bible. Your Bible is the living word of God, yes it is alive, [Heb.4:11]. When you neglect to read your Bible you become weak in your Christian walk and weak in your fellowship with God.  It will show you your current condition, it is like a mirror [Heb.4:11]. Let’s look at a current news report that you will find when you read your Bible.

Paul wrote to Timothy about 1950 years ago about the “last days” in [2 Tim.3]

Verses 2-4   (This list has a two-fold purpose: A Prophecy of things to come and a checklist for ourselves)

Lovers of their own selves – this generation is the “me” generation, it’s all about you

Covetous – our entire economy is based on covetousness [Col.3:5] or idolatry

Boasters – people who brag on themselves – “vain glory” [Prov.25:27] [John 7:17-18]

Proud – [Prov.16:18] “…goeth before destruction”

Blasphemers – turn of the TV or go to the movies

Disobedient to parents – it’s not a childhood disorder, its disobedience.

Unthankful – [Romans 1:21] clearly one of the first steps to a Godless life

Unholy – God smoked Sodom and Gomorrah, and we have done more wickedly

Without natural affection – Homosexuality, but also a cold heartedness in people of today

Trucebreakers – no honor, in days past a handshake make a deal

False accusers – it is never your fault, you are always the victim

Incontinent– uncontrolled passions or sexual appetite

Fierce – violent, no fear of God

Despisers of those that are good– [Prov.29:27]

Traitors – not trustworthy

Heady – hasty, no forethought

High minded – arrogant, self-willed

Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God – The first and great commandment [Mat.22:37]

                                The Problem

Verse 5

  1. Having the form of godliness – what form of godliness do you have? Are you all in or just playing church? God knows.

  1. But denying the power thereof – when you don’t read your Bible and believe it you are denying the power thereof. God gives us the power to defeat all of these sins.

Verse 7-8

  1. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, resist the truth – You go to and believe google, friends, TV talking heads, etc., before you come to God and read your Bible for the truth,[John 17:17]

“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD and read…” [Isa.34:16] Just because the world is exactly as Paul told timothy it would be, doesn’t mean that we need to be that way also. Read your Bible and have a true form of Godliness and don’t deny the power thereof.
