Rejoice in God’s Words Jer. 15:16 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO of Rejoice in Gods Words
Jeremiah said, …thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart [Jer 15:16]. We have been preaching on reasons to rejoice. And we can and should certainly rejoice in Gods words.
We rejoice in:
Seeing God’s Words
“Thy words.” We have no way of knowing God apart from his words. We can’t see him, feel him, hear him, or smell him. But we can see his words; we can hear his words. We know God through his words. If it weren’t for his words, we would be very limited in what we know about God [Ps 19:1-5; Rom 1:18-21]. From creation, we recognize that he is the creator. Looking at the heavens and the things that God created tells us something about him.
But we don’t really know him until we see him and hear him in his words. The devil and men have done a great deal of corrupting to replace Gods words with their own. So, when you know you have Gods words instead of their words [1 Thes 2:13], you have great cause for rejoicing. You can go to Gods words anytime of the night or day and fellowship with God in them [1 Jn 1:3-4]. What joy.
Finding Gods Words
“were found.” The Berean’s searched the words [Acts 17:11]. Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me,” [Jn 5:39]. According to Prov 2:1-5 we are to search through the words of God like men seeking for silver and searching for hid treasure. When they find what they are looking for, they rejoice. And when we find what we are looking for, we rejoice. One of the greatest joys you will experience is going to the Bible with a question and searching through the scripture until God gives you the answer. You will want to shout from the housetop when you find it.
Eating God’s Words
“and I did eat them.” Ezek 3:1-3; Rev 10:9-10 are examples of eating the words of God [Matt 4:4]. The words of God are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb [Ps 19:10]. In 1 Pet 2:2 the words of God are like milk. In Heb 5:12-14 the words of God are like meat. They are to be taken in and digested [Prov 22:17-18]. Like a man said, “It’s not how many times you’ve been through the Bible; it’s how many times the Bible has been through you.” When his words are fitted in your lips, and they come flowing from your heart, you rejoice [Prov 15:23].
Conclusion: There is joy communing with the Lord in his words and getting things directly from him out of his Book. Men spend more time with books written by men, than they do with the book written by God. Change that. Start spending time with God in his Book and you will rejoice.
