Remedy For A Troubled Heart Jn. 14: 1-4 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Many people have troubled hearts. Marital, financial, familial, occupational, political problems, and other things cause a troubled heart. If you have a troubled heart today, then consider what Jesus said in Jn 14:1-4. The remedy for a troubled heart is:
Trust in Jesus – Jn 14:1. “Believe also in me”. There are many people who believe in God who do not have faith in Jesus Christ. It’s the faith of Christ that saves you. And when you believe in Jesus, you no longer have a troubled heart about eternal life. You do not have to worry about where you will spend eternity. He that hath the Son hath life [1 Jn 5:12; Jn 14:6].
Furthermore, we live by the faith of the Son of God [Gal 2:20]. That is, we can trust him for everything we face in this life. Therefore, you should trust him for everything. Life down here can overwhelm you. Believe in Jesus. Believe what he said in the Bible. He said, “If it were not so I would have told you.” You can count on everything the Lord said in the Bible.
Heavenly affection – Jn 14:2. People worry too much about things “down here”. In Jn 14:2, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house. He said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” So, we say that the Lord is preparing a mansion for us. As the song goes, “I have a mansion, just over the hilltop, in that bright land where we’ll never grow. And some day yonder, we will never more wander, but walk the streets that are purest gold.”
I have heard men say, “I don’t care whether I get a shack on the back side of heaven.” I think they say that because they don’t really care as much about what is up there as they do about what is down here. They are earthly minded rather than heavenly affected. When you see heaven you are going to be amazed.
On television you can see sheer delight on the faces of couples when they see what contractors and designers have done to refurbish and remodel their homes. That’s just a glimpse of your amazement at the sight of your mansion.
Don’t worry about how little you possess down here. You need very little. The less you possess here the more you can invest up there. Lay up your treasure in heaven.
Loving the Lord’s appearing – Jesus said, “I will come again.” This troubles you face down here can’t go on forever. Jesus is coming back. When he returns, we’re out of here. His return will signal the end of the world [under the god of this world], the restoration of creation and the establishment of peace on earth. You can truly say about any problem you are facing, “it came to pass; it didn’t come here to stay.”
Conclusion: Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled”. If you are a sinner without Jesus as your Savior you can remedy your heart trouble by receiving Jesus Christ today. Christian if you have a troubled heart then trust Jesus with your problem, set your affection on things above and start looking for the Lord’s return.
