The Remnant and Resurrection of Israel Rom 11:5,15  CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

There are three main themes that we will study in Romans 11.  They are the remnant of Israel, the resurrection of Israel and the salvation of Israel.  Today, we will study the first two of these doctrines.

The remnant of Israel – Rom 11:1-5 – when Jesus returns in 2 Thes 1:7-10, he comes in flaming fire taking vengeance.  Surely, you would think that he would take vengeance on Israel.  Yet Paul says that there will be a remnant of Israel who will be saved at his coming in Is 10:16-23.  They are likened to the trees of a forest that are still standing after a forest fire.  Is 11:10-12 shows us that the remnant will be gathered at the return of the Lord [see also Is 11:4-9].  In Jer 23:3-8 we see this remnant, we see King Jesus, and we see that it is the Lord that gathers them.

The resurrection of Israel – Rom 11:15 – Paul calls this “life from the dead.”  The resurrection of Israel is the crux of the covenants God made with Israel.  In Ezek 37:11-14, Israel’s graves are opened and the saints go in to possess the land that was promised to their fathers.  David is among those who rise [Acts 2:29; Ezek 37:24-25].  Job knew about the resurrection long before Moses wrote about it [Job 19:25-27].  In Is 26:19-21 dead men living are connected with the return of the Lord.  In Hos 13:9-14 being ransomed from the grave is connected with the Tribulation and the return of Jesus, the King.  Jesus died to destroy him that had the power of death [Heb 2:14-15].  Resurrection is essential to the gospel [1 Cor 15:3-4, 12-20].  Therefore, the rapture is for us [1 Cor 15:50-55] and the resurrection at the Lord’s return is for Israel and the tribulation saints [Rev 20:4].

Conclusion: The remnant and resurrection of Israel are two very important doctrines that must be understood to straighten out the false teaching that Jesus is through with Israel. Nothing could be further from the truth.
