Resolutions Luke 16: 1-8 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
The Lord commended the unjust steward for his wisdom even though he was unjust. The Lord said that he was wiser than the children of light. Among other things, his wisdom was demonstrated in that he said, “I am resolved what to do” and then he did it.
At this time of year, many of us make resolutions for the coming year. There is nothing wrong with that unless you don’t do what you resolved to do or you make resolutions that you know you will not keep. So, here are some resolutions that you can make that are attainable.
I am resolved to:
Read my Bible everyday – Matt 4:4 – Get a daily reading calendar if need be. It will help you read through your Bible in the year.
Pray everyday – 1 Thes 5:17 – Paul said to pray without ceasing. So, that would certainly include praying at least daily. Follow what Paul said in 1 Tim 2:1-3.
Attend church services every week – Acts 2:46; Heb 10:25 – Christians have become very lax in their attendance. They look at their choices of things to do and if they can’t think of anything better to do than to go to church, they’ll go. You need to decide Saturday night that you will be in church on Sunday.
Give more than last year – 2 Cor 8:1-8 – Christians have a wide variety of ideas about giving. Regardless of your doctrinal position on giving you should strive to do more this year than you did last year. Barring some exceptional event that allowed you to give more in a prior year you should become more charitable with time. Letourneau started by giving 10% and living on 90%. By the end of his life he was giving 90% and living on 10%.
Pass out tracts everyday – Ps 68:11 – Carry tracts with you in your purse or pocket and give them to cashiers, wait staff, friends, neighbors, family members, strangers, etc. We don’t publish the word enough because we are not carrying tracts with us wherever we go.
Lead one soul to Christ and get him in church with me – Prov 11:30 – We realize that “we” don’t save souls; the Lord does. But many are not coming to Christ because many are not witnessing. Can you imagine if every person in every good church did this? The churches would double in attendance [not for the sake of attendance and numbers]. What an increase in the Lord’s harvest [Matt 9:37-38].
Grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord – 2 Pet 3:18 – We are to grow as Christians and the best way to do that is to get to know the Lord better and to grow in his grace. This is something that happens on purpose not by accident. Exercise yourself in godliness.
Conclusion: So, make some doable resolutions for this coming year and then be ye doers of the word and not hearers only!!
