Revealed Unto Babes, Lk 10:21-14

Revealed Unto Babes

What is recorded in Lk 10:21-24 caused Jesus to rejoice and it was good in the Father’s sight.  Jesus rejoiced in spirit, though he was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, Is 53:3, that the Father’s ‘things’ were revealed unto babes.  This is the only time you see him rejoicing.

Jesus said, “I thank thee, O Father”.  So the Father is the one who chose to whom to reveal his Son and his truth.

He is Lord of heaven and earth.  Ex 20:11 the Lord made heaven and earth.  These are his.  He can and does insert himself in the matters and affairs that take place here.  And God can do anything he wants to, Ps 115:3.

Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent.  Prov 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the honour of kings is to search out a matter..   Ecc 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end”.

Instead, they were revealed unto babes.  Deut 29:29 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but the things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever…”.  Dan 2:19 “Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision”.  As wise as Daniel was he wasn’t wise enough to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’ dream.  God had to reveal it, Dan 10:1.  Peter knew who Jesus was by the revelation of the Father, Matt 16:17.

All things are delivered to me of my Father.  God gave Jesus: Jn 7:16 his doctrine; Matt 28:18 all power; Mk 14:36 the cup; and Jn 17:10-12 the souls of his followers.  And he gave Jesus the privilege of revealing the Father to whom he would.

No man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father And who the Father is but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Jesus said to disciples, privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see the things that ye see”.  They saw and heard the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God.  Three of them saw Jesus’s Transfiguration.

Many prophets and kings have desired to see and hear.  It’s the glory of kings to search out a matter, but they couldn’t find these things out.  Herod found out nothing.  In 1 Pet 1:10 the prophets inquired and searched diligently.  Israel saw and heard “nothing” because their hearts waxed gross, Matt 13:14-15, Is 6:9-10 l.

Since scholars don’t understand God’s words through revelation then they resort to:

  • Privately interpreting the word.  2 Pet 1:19, No private interpretation.  Jehovahs Witnesses have done this.
  • Wresting the word.  2 Pet 3:16, Wrest the scriptures to their own destruction.  Wrest is to force by twisting.  Doctrines of works based salvation are an example.
  • Corrupting the word.  2 Cor 2:17 they corrupt the word of God.  Corrupt is to alter from the correct form or version.  Modern English versions are perfect examples.
  • Perverting the word.  Jer 23:36 perverted the words of the living God.  In Jer 23, they spoke lies and deceit of their own heart, making the word of God say something it doesn’t say, like “Ye shall have peace”, Jer 23:17.

You and I must be the babes to whom God may reveal whatever he wants as we study and rightly divide his words, 2 Tim 2:15.  We know the things of God that we know by the revelation of the Holy Spirit, 1 Cor 2:10, not by being wise and prudent.
