Safety Tips for Christians

Safety is a concern of every parent. They want to provide a safe environment for their children. The Lord is the same way with his children.

New York—bulletproof back-to-school clothes are the latest thing in New York City children who face a dangerous trip to and from school.

School blazers and other jackets fitted with bullet-resistant Kevlar 129 pads are providing a feeling of security to parents undaunted by price tags ranging from $250 to $600. Added shielding from flying bullets can be had from a bulletproof book bag or clipboard.

Satisfied parents say: “$450 is a pretty good investment. You can’t buy another kid.”

[Prov.21:6] Safety is of the Lord, regardless of your preparation.

[Ps.33:17] “An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.”

[Prov.29:25] …but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.

 

There are many things we can do to keep ourselves safe, and avoid many dangers. But our safety is of the Lord.

Keep a low profile

Avoid potentially dangerous areas

Never travel alone after dark

Meet visitors in the hotel lobby. Don’t give out your room number.

Carry belongings in a secure manner. Prefer: use shoulder bags or money belts.

Be wary of street vendors. They may work in teams.

Book hotel rooms between the second and seventh floors. This prevents easy entrance from outside and yet is low enough for fire equipment to reach.

Learn a few key phrases in the local language, in case you need the police or a doctor.

 

 

Let’s look at a few of these safety tips and see how well they fit our Christian life.

1. Keep a low profile          (Pride is a target on your back, high profile)

• Less exposure   (time on road vs. accidents) (when in battle and bullets are flying)
• Low profile is opposite of pride [Job 40:3-14]

[Prov. 29 23] “…a man’s pride shall bring him low”, humility is safety

[Prov. 16:18] before destruction and a fall

[Prov. 11:2] cometh shame, with the lowly is wisdom- safety

 

2. Avoid potentially dangerous areas          (Avoidance)

• Most safety programs are based on “avoiding” accidents (Valero, Citgo safety videos required of everyone entering plant)

[Prov.4:14-16] “…avoid it” (the path of the wicked…way of evil men) misery loves company, so does wickedness!

[Rom.16:17] avoid those that cause divisions, you can be deceived!

[1 Cor.7:2] avoid fornication, [1 Thes.4:3] Abstain

[2 Tim.2:22-23] avoid foolish and unlearned questions –gender strife’s

[Titus 3:9] avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law (the Bible) – they are unprofitable and vain. No winner, No salvation

 

3. Never travel alone after dark

John 3:16-21
¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
¹⁸ He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
²¹ But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

• We know that bad things happen when it is dark outside, so we avoid darkness (security lights, etc.).
• The travel tip says to never go alone.
• You have the light of the world, [John 8:12] you should not walk in darkness, and you are never alone, in the light or dark [Isa.47:10-11] You think “none seeth me”
• You also have others for safety [Prov.11:14]
