1 Sam 9:1-27 Saul was a Good Man CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
In 1 Sam 9:1-27, God’s choice of Saul to be the king of Israel was not without merit. He didn’t put a bad man in office. Saul was a good man at the outset.
He had:
A Good Heritage – v.1 – his father was a mighty man of power
Good Character – v.2 – there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he
A Good Work Ethic – v.3-5 – he looked all over for those asses and only gave up looking when he became concerned that his dad would become more worried about him than he was about the animals
Good Respect – v.7 – he believed in honoring the man of God with a present out of respect for his office
Good Humility – v.21 – he recognized that the salutation of Samuel in v.20 was not fitting for someone from his family
Good Sense – v.27 – he stuck around to hear the word of the Lord
At this point in his life, Saul would have been a good man to emulate
