Scripture Preservation Ps.12:6-7 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Scripture Preservation is simply the fulfillment of the promise that God made in Ps 12:6-7.  Those verses say, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

This is a promise not just to preserve his word but to preserve his WORDS.  And this is a very important promise because we are told by the Lord Jesus Christ himself, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God,” [Matt 4:4].  How are you going to do that if you don’t have his words today?  Jesus went on further to say, “If a man love me, he will keep my words,” [Jn 14:23].  How can you do that if you don’t have his words?

In Ps 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” That’s impossible if you don’t have God’s words to hide in your heart.  James tells us to “receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls,” [Jas 1:21].  And Peter tells us that we are “born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever,” [1 Pet 1:23].  That cannot be possible if we do not have the words of God in writing today.  There must be scripture preservation.

You may not realize this but all the originals are gone.  Everything that Moses wrote, that Isaiah wrote, that David wrote, that Solomon wrote, that Paul wrote, that Matthew wrote, and on and on is gone.  The autographs have either decayed into obliteration or have been destroyed into nonexistence.  So, are we to presume that God “that cannot lie,” [Titus 1:2] lied when he said, “thou shalt preserve them?”  No.  We are to believe that he fulfilled what he said.  And why should we believe in the preservation of his words?  Because:

Matt 24:35 says, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”  1 Pet 1:25 says, “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.”  Well, heaven and earth are still here and so God’s words must still be here.  His word endures forever.

Rom 15:4, “…whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”  We must have the scripture [the things written aforetime] to learn from it and to have hope.  The Ethiopian eunuch did [Acts 8:32] and what he was reading was not the “original.”  There must be scripture preservation.

Is 30:8, “…write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.”  If what Isaiah wrote was for the time to come forever, then what he wrote must be in writing today.

2 Pet 1:19, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy…”  Peter said that what is written in scripture is “more sure” than hearing God speak from heaven.  If we don’t have in writing what God said, then certainly Peter’s assertion is false.  There must be scripture preservation.

Matt 27:9, “Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value…”  God preserved what Jeremiah “spoke” when he wrote Matt 27.  You will find these same words “written” in Zech 11:13. Zechariah wrote them and Jeremiah spoke them.

Acts 20:35, “…remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  You can’t find anywhere where the Lord spoke these words.  Yet he spoke them.  His words were preserved when Paul wrote down what Jesus said.

Well then, we should believe what the Bible says about preservation. God preserved his words.  They must be in writing somewhere around here.  He promised and God is not in the habit of breaking his promises.  So, where are they?  For us, they are in the Authorized King James Bible.

Authors of modern Bibles do not believe that we have God’s words in writing today.  They believe that the Bibles they have published convey the message of God or that their words are close to the originals, but they do not believe that they are the literal words of God.  Some of them believe that “the originals” were the words of God, but that’s as much as they are willing to profess in their faith.  And not all of them believe that.

Listen, if God is powerful enough to make sure that the men who wrote the original words in Hebrew, Syriac and Greek wrote exactly what he wanted them to write, then be sure he is powerful enough to preserve those words in English by guiding the translators of the Authorized Version to write in English what he originally said the way he wanted them to write it.  That’s preservation!!  And King James Bible believers are the only ones who believe and profess that we have God’s words in writing today.  That ought to tell you something.  There must be scripture preservation.
