Often we evaluate the things we do by asking, “What’s in it for me?”  This text tells us not to seek our own “but every man another’s wealth.”  In other words, we should ask, “What’s in it for them?” We should seek another’s wealth.  Consider how we can seek their:

Wealth of Salvation – 2 Cor 8:9 – consider the great wealth of our salvation that we have because Jesus was willing to live in poverty that we might be rich – we have eternal life, all of the divine provisions, and an eternal inheritance – we should be willing to go out of our way to tell others about this great salvation so that they can have it, too.

Wealth of Friendship – Prov 18:24 – when I was younger the old timers used to say that if, when you died, you had 5 good friends you were a wealthy man – we ought to befriend folks with the determination to be the best friend they have.  Folks need good friends.

Wealth of Finances – Eph 4:28 – some people have real financial needs and when we can provide those [Lk 6:38] it makes a wealth of difference to them – such is the case in missions.  Missionaries cannot do the things God wants them to do without our finances.  God intends it that way.

Wealth of Prayer – Jas 5:16 – prayer is a tremendous benefit to those for whom we intercede – we need to pray for others with heartfelt intercession – often intercessors are awakened in the night to pray for another person who is in dire need – the great wealth comes when God answers our prayers for them.

Wealth of Mentorship – 2 Tim 1:2 – mentorship is more than discipleship – discipleship helps a young Christian to initially get grounded in the word – mentorship is a process of pouring your life into the life of another individual to help them learn, grow and mature – this is where you take someone younger in the Lord and provide for them an example and train them in the things you have learned and know.

Conclusion: Let’s not seek our own – let’s seek another’s wealth – let’s be mindful of these many ways that other’s can become wealthy through our efforts on their behalf.
