Spiritual Blessings, Eph 1 – Aug 30, 2026

God hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 1:3.  You must be saved to have these spiritual blessings.  They are spiritual.  These are:

Acceptance in the beloved, Eph 1:6.  The plan of God is that those “in him”, Eph 1:4, “should be holy and without blame before him in love”.  Thus, he “predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself”, Eph 1:5.

The effect of our adoption is the “redemption of our body”, Rom 8:23.  That is, we will be completely conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, in perfect incorruptible and immortal bodies.  And because this is our predestination after salvation, he accepts us “in the beloved”.  This should compel us to yield to him as he changes us into the likeness of himself.

Redemption and forgiveness, Eph 1:7.  Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, we have been redeemed.  We have been bought back from death and from bondage to sin and the devil.  We are no longer on our way to hell.  We are paid out… Jesus paid it all.

And we have the forgiveness of sins.  Not only our past sins before we were saved, but also sins that we commit now.  He died for the sins of the whole world, 1 Jn 2:2.  So, through his blood he keeps us clean, 1 Jn 1:9.

An inheritance, Eph 1:11-14.  The young ruler asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life”?  The inheritance granted to all “in him” is eternal life.  See 1 Pet 1:3-5.  This is the inheritance that is incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you”.

Enlightened understanding, Eph 1:17-19.  The Lord must open the eyes of our understanding after we are saved so that we can see these spiritual blessings in our lives.

  • The hope of his calling – he wants us to know what is the hope of his calling.  To see this is to understand what God has called you to be and do.  The direction of your life completely changes when you see this.  And the riches of his grace (1:7) are abundant in his calling.  Here you find your life’s course and ultimate purpose and joy.
  • The riches of the glory of his inheritance – this keeps us going in the direction of our greatest prize (Phil 3:14).  All the other so called riches of the world pale by comparison to these riches.  But you must see them with spiritual understanding or you will never strive to have them.  Other things will allure you.
  • The exceeding greatness of his power – this is the power that he “wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead”, Eph 1:20.  We need his power to fulfill the hope of his calling and to receive the riches of the glory of his inheritance.  The beautiful thing about his power is that the source of it in Jesus Christ is “far above all principality, and power, and might” Eph 1:21.  No power in the universe can come close to his power.

Conclusion: Get saved and then live in the knowledge of these spiritual blessing.  You are accepted in the beloved.  You have been redeemed and you are and will be forgiven.  Also, you have an eternal inheritance reserved in heaven for you.  And you have a calling and the power to fulfill your calling, and riches and the power to obtain these riches in Christ Jesus.  These are splendid spiritual blessings, indeed.
