God Has Provided Spiritual Light
God has provided spiritual light for the darkness in the world. The condition of the world is darkness. This darkness is both literal and spiritual. In Gen 1, literal darkness was upon the face of the deep. So, God said Let there be light. Then God lifted the waters of the deep off the earth, creating a firmament, which we call outer space. And this space is dark necessitating the sun, moon, and stars to give light in the darkness.
In Eph 6:12 we see the spiritual darkness. Notice the rulers of the darkness of this world and their spiritual wickedness in high places. They influence the whole world. 1 Jn 5:19 says, the whole world lieth in wickedness. So, God gives spiritual light in the spiritual darkness of the world.
Where Does Spiritual Light Come From?
God’s Son
Jn 1:1-5, 9. Jesus said that he is the light of the world, Jn 8:12. He is pure, absolute, bright light. Men have two responses to his light. They either believe him or they reject him, Jn 3:18-19. The thing to do is believe him and be saved and get the light into you. Eph 5:14 says, …arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
If you don’t believe him, when you die, you will eventually end up in outer darkness, Matt 8:12. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Even now, the angels that fell are in chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment, 2 Pet 2:4.
God’s Words
2 Cor 4:4. There is light in the glorious gospel of Christ. Yet, the devil uses his darkness to blind the minds of them that believe not. In Ps 119:130 the entrance of thy words giveth light. His words produce pure, absolute, bright light. According to 2 Pet 1:19, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place.”
When preachers aren’t preaching the word, Is 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
God’s Children
Jn 12:36. Jesus said, while ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be children of light. In 1 Thes 5:5 Ye are children of the light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Eph 5:8 says ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. We are to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
The light in us helps others come to Christ. 2 Cor 4:6 says, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Conclusion
How pure and bright is your light in this dark, wicked world? Let it be bright and let it shine. Like the lyrics of the song say, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine; This little light of mine, I’m going let it shine; let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”
