Strength in Adversity, Prov 24:10

Strength in Adversity Prov. 24: 10 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

The Bible says that “if thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small,” [Prov 24:10].  When we face adversity, generally, we first pray for God to remove it.  Well, the Lord usually doesn’t remove the adversity.  And so we have to go through it.  Peter tells us, “the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world,” [1 Pet 5:9]. Thus, we need strength in adversity to get through these trials.

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  Ps 27:1 David said, “the Lord is the strength of my life”.  Eph 3:16 Paul prayed that the Ephesians would be “strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man”.  David said, “I will go in the strength of the Lord God,” Ps 71:16.  Paul said, “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might,” Eph 6:10.

God’s Grace

2 Cor 12:9 – When Paul asked the Lord to remove the thorns in his flesh, God said, “my grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness,” [2 Cor 12:9].  God’s grace can strengthen you to the point that you take pleasure in your infirmities.

God’s Wisdom

Prov 24:5 a wise man is strong; Prov 8:14 Wisdom says, “I have strength.” Ecc 7:19; Ecc 9:16 wisdom is better than strength.  With weapons of war you only have the show of strength and the weapons with which to fight.  With wisdom, you may never have to fight.  The wise woman of Abel saved the city from defeat at the hands of Joab by throwing Sheba’s head over the wall [2 Sam 20].

God’s Men

Lk 22:32 God’s men strengthen each other.  The best way for us to do this is through the word’s of God.  But we are also strengthened by being of one accord, by prayer, by mutual support, etc.

God’s Praise

Ps 8:2 with Matt 21:16.  Praise will strengthen you like military marches strengthen soldiers.  Praise magnifies God and, therefore, minimizes your problems and your concerns.  Paul and Silas, in prison in Philippi, sang praises.  And God mightily opened the prison and saved the jailer and his household.
