Take Heed Lest Ye Fall, 1 Cor 10:12

1 Cor 10:12 says, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall”.  It’s easy to trip or slip in the Christian life and fall.  Therefore, we are going to examine the areas in which you are most likely to fall, so that you can take heed lest ye fall.

He who should take heed lest he fall is:

The unsaved sinner – 1 Cor 15:1-4.  Those of us who are saved stand upon the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  If you have believed something other than the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, you are not standing in faith upon him.  And, therefore, you will fall into the pits of hell in eternity.  Stand, instead, upon the finished work of Jesus Christ for you at Calvary.

The weak believer – 1 Cor 2:5.  Our faith should stand in the power of God upon the wisdom of God.  If your faith is standing upon the wisdom of the man who taught you rather than upon the God who bought you, you will likely fall.  Your faith must be in the words of God, Rom 10:17.

The self-reliant servant – Rom 5:2, Rom 14:4, 1 Pet 5:12.  God is able to make us stand when we stand by faith in his grace.  Servants of the Lord who rely upon their own strength to stand will fall in due time.  Without Christ we can do nothing.

The unarmed soldier – Eph 6:10-18.  We are to stand in the fight against spiritual wickedness in high places.  And we can only stand in the whole armor of God.  Without this armor, properly placed upon us, we are sitting ducks, waiting to fall to the fiery darts of the wicked.

The divided family member – Mk 3:25.  A house divided against itself cannot stand.  Young people should not rebel against the authority of their parents, even when they don’t feel like obeying.  Spouses must not divide against each other.  The devil would love to break up your home.  He can’t if you stay undivided.

The discordant church member – Phil 1:27.  We must stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel.  The devil is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.  He picks off church members who drift away from the flock.

Conclusion: If you are one of these, you might think you are standing.  Take heed lest ye fall.  If you aren’t saved, then trust Jesus Christ today and stand upon the gospel of Jesus.  If you are saved, but you are weak, self-reliant, unarmed, divided, or discordant, then begin to correct this today, lest ye fall.
