The Bride of Christ, SoS 6:10

The Bride of Christ

The bride of Christ is pictured in Song of Solomon 6:10.  Though this song is about Solomon and his bride, there are many pictures of the bride of Christ in these chapters.

In SOS 6:10, the bride of Christ is:

Looking forth as the morning.  The morning is the 2nd Advent of Jesus.  Right now we are in the night.  This is why Jesus comes as a thief in the night!  To look forth is to look forward to or look ahead.  It expresses excitement or anticipation about the coming morning.  We’re looking forward to Jesus’s return, when he will rule this earth in righteousness and judgment.

Jesus comes in SOS 2:8-13 leaping and skipping.  And he calls for his love, his fair one to come away.  This is the rapture.  We should be loving his appearing, 2 Tim 4:8, and he should be loving to come see us.    We don’t want to be lukewarm for our bridegroom.

Fair as the moon.  Fair is pleasing to the eye especially because of a flawless quality.  Following our washing by the word of God in Eph 5:25-27, we come forth without spot or blemish.  Thus, we should be letting the word of God sanctify us now.  An eclipse takes place when the earth comes between the sun and moon.  Today we see many churches that are more worldly than they are spiritual.  We should reflect the full light of the sun.

Clear as the sun.  Clear is bright, luminous, and easily visible.  Jesus returns as the Sun of righteousness with healing in his wings, Mal 4.  We should shine as bright as the sunlight and the gospel should shine brightly through us.

Terrible as an army with banners.  Terrible is terrifying, exciting extreme alarm or intense fear.  We are the armies in heaven that follow Jesus on white horses in Rev 19:11-16.  There should be an awe in us and because of us as we represent Jesus on earth.

While we are not here to condemn the world, as Jesus was not here to condemn the world, we must fight the good fight of faith.  Why else are we given the whole armor of God?  We are instructed by Paul to be good soldiers of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: We see in this verse the great need for us to be always looking forward with great anticipation for the arrival of our Lord.  And we should reflect his light fully and purely as the moon reflect the sun’s light on a full moon.  We should be as clear as the sun and as terrible as an army in the fight of faith, preparing for the day when we will ride with Jesus as he takes over the world.
