The Deity of the Holy Ghost
1 John 5:7
In this lesson we are going to look at proof from the Bible for the Deity of the Holy Ghost. The word of God is very clear when it comes the to the person of the Holy Ghost. Here we will look at how the Holy Ghost has both the attributes of God and as a person.
Let us begin by looking at a place where we can see all three persons in the trinity separately. In Matthew 3:16-17 at the baptism of Jesus Christ John see Jesus standing before him, he sees the Holy Ghost descending upon Jesus from Heaven and lighting upon him, and he hears God speak audibly from Heaven. Jesus also speaks of himself along with the Holy Ghost and God the father as separate in John 14:6.
The attributes of God possessed by the Holy Ghost:
1) The Holy Ghost is eternal (Hebrews 9:14)
2) The Holy Ghost is Omnipresent, everywhere at the same time (Psalm139:7-4)
3) The Holy Ghost is Omnipotent, all powerful (Luke 1:35 ; Job 26:13)
4) The Holy Ghost is Omniscient, all knowing (1 Corinthians 2:10-11)
5) The Holy Ghost is truth (1 John 5:6)
The personal attributes of the Holy Ghost:
1) The Holy Ghost can love (Romans 15:30)
2) The Holy Ghost can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30)
3) The Holy Ghost can be lied to (Acts 5:1-6)
4) The Holy Ghost is our teacher (John 16:12-14)
In closing note that all three persons of the trinity are given credit for raising Jesus Christ in the scriptures (Jesus, John 10:17-18 ; God, Acts 2:23-24 ; Holy Spirit, Romans 8:11)
