Revelation 6:9-11 deals with The Fifth Seal.

v.9 The Lamb opens the fifth seal – and John sees souls under an altar

The souls are tribulation martyrs – Matthew 10:21-22 some will be “turned in” by their own family members, Revelation 2:10 some will be imprisoned and tortured 10 days before they are killed, Revelation 20:4 they will be decapitated

They are under the altar – Revelation 11:1 this altar will be in the temple of God, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 the devil will become incarnate and move into the temple of God, Revelation 13:12 while there he will be worshipped, Revelation 13:15 those who don’t worship him will be killed, Revelation 17:6 w/ 1 Corinthians 10:20-21 their blood will be drunk as part of their sacrifice, Revelation 13:13 their bodies will probably be incinerated, Revelation 6:9 and their souls will go under the altar into what used to be called Abraham’s bosom [Luke 16:22] but which will be called “death” during the tribulation [Revelation 20:13], Revelation 7:14-15 they will remain there until the tribulation rapture

They will be slain for the word of God – Revelation 20:4, Revelation 1:9, Matthew 10:20

And for their testimony – Revelation 12:11, Matthew 10:18, Revelation 20:4

Which they held – Hebrews 10:23, they will be tempted to recant [Acts 26:11 like Paul made them do before he got saved when he caused some to blaspheme]

v.10 They cry for judgment and vengeance – Revelation 11:18, Revelation 19:11 and judgment and vengeance they shall get [2 Thessalonians 1:7-9]

v.11 They will receive white robes – they get their white robes while they are still under the altar, even before they are raptured Revelation 7:9, 13

They are told to rest for a little season – the remainder of the tribulation

Some of their fellow servants and brethren have yet to be martyred [beheaded] as they were
