The God of the Bible Ex. 5:2 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
One of Pharaoh’s problems in Ex 5:2 is that he didn’t know the God of the Bible. When Moses and Aaron approached him about letting Israel go into the wilderness he said, “I know not the Lord.” There are many people today who likewise don’t know the God of the Bible. Today we are going to show you some things about God that you need to know so that you don’t form the wrong opinion about him.
The world has formed the wrong opinion of the God of the Bible. The world’s god is an evolutionist. He is under the authority of men because he is a concept of man. The world’s god allows that ‘whatever man thinks is right’ is right. He won’t judge sinners. The world’s god extends mercy in unrighteousness. He doesn’t deal in absolute truth because truth is relative. And he loves everybody just the same and just the way they are. That’s not the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible is:
The God of Creation – Gen 1:1 “God created the heaven and the earth”. Heb 11:3 the “things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”. Ps 19:1-2 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork”. Rom 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse”. Prov 3:19-20 shows a very intelligent design requiring wisdom, understanding and knowledge.
The God of Authority – Gen 1:26 “let them have dominion over…”. Gen 1:28 “subdue it: and have dominion over…”. Gen 3:16 “thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee”. Dan 4:17 “the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men”. Dan 2:21 he removeth kings, and setteth up kings”. Jn 19:11 “Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above”. Rom 13:1 “… there is no power but of God…”.
The God of Righteousness – Gen 2:17 “thou shalt not eat of it”. Ex 20:3-17 the Ten Commandments. Deut 6:25 “it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us”. Rom 10:4 “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth”. 2 Cor 5:21 ‘that we might be made the righteousness of God in him’.
The God of Judgment – Gen 6:5 “God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”. Gen 6:7 “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air”. Gen 19:13 “we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it”. Matt 25:41 “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels”. 2 Pet 2:6 “And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly”.
The God of Mercy – Ex 34:6 “The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, and transgression and sin…”. Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”.
The God of Truth – Deut 32:4 “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he”. Ps 119:160 “Thy word is true from the beginning”. Jn 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”. Titus 1:2 “God… cannot lie” – Rom 3:4 “Let God be true, but everyman a liar”.
The God of Love – 1 Jn 4:8 “God is love”. Jn 3:16 “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son…”. 1 Jn 4:19 “we love him because he first loved us”. Prov 6:16 “These six things doth the Lord hate”. Ps 5:5 “Thou hatest all workers of iniquity”.
Conclusion: This is the God of the Bible and he doesn’t look anything like the idolatrous God of the world.
