The Heart in the Temple of the Holy Ghost III 2 Cor. 4:6 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
As we have seen in the prior lessons, your heart is one of the most important parts of the temple of the Holy Ghost. In this lesson we are going to study what God puts in your heart and what he wants in your heart to perfect the work of the Holy Spirit in you. When you get saved you have or should have:
God in your heart – 2 Cor 4:6 – For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Thus, we need to shine as lights to lead those who are lost to Jesus.
Jesus in your heart – 1 Pet 3:4 – But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. Women, particularly, can have great influence when the “hidden man” [Jesus] of the heart is seen through their meek and quiet spirit.
Assurance in your heart – 1 Jn 3:19 – And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. It is imperative that we know the salvation the Lord has given us is not temporary.
Love in your heart – Col 2:2 – That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. The Lord wants our hearts knit together in love – any hindrance to that needs to be addressed and resolved.
Comfort in your heart – Col 2:2 – That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. We are comforted in our mutual love in times of sweet fellowship an in times of distress and need.
Purity in your heart – 1 Pet 1:22 – Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently. The Lord wants sin out of our hearts and purity in our hearts.
Joy in your heart – Prov 15:13 – A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. The joy of the Lord is our strength. Joy is one aspect of the fruit of the Spirit.
Peace in your heart – Phil 4:7 – And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Peace is another wonderful aspect of the fruit of the Spirit. It keeps us calm when everything suggests that we should be in chaos.
Wisdom in your heart – Prov 2:10 – When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul. Wisdom comes from God. He gives it to us through the Bible and through wise counsel. You gain it as you obey it and apply it.
Knowledge in your heart – Prov 18:15 – The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. Knowledge comes from God and is given to us on the basis of our fear of the Lord.
Melody in your heart – Eph 5:19 – Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. The melody needs to be in your heart before it comes out of your mouth.
Purpose in your heart – 2 Cor 9:7 – Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Purpose in your heart to give because Matt 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Conclusion: these are the things the Lord puts in your heart and wants in your heart in the temple of the Holy Ghost – you need to cultivate your heart in such a way that these things that the Lord provides you will be apparent and useful to the Holy Spirit.
