The Lord’s Chastening Prov. 3:11-12 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Don’t think for a minute that God won’t chasten you when you get out of line – if he doesn’t you need to be scared – a loving father won’t let a disobedient child keep getting away with trouble that will eventually harm him.  Sports – chastening keeps the team in line and trains them to perform the drills.  Now why does God chasten us:

Because he loves us and wants the best for us – Heb 12:5-11 – in Rev 3:19 God chastens whom he loves – repent – because if we don’t something worse can happen – chastening by the Lord yields holiness and the peaceable fruit of righteousness

Because he wants us to be happy – Job 5:17-19 chasten can make you happy and turn you from iniquity and give you rest (Ps 94:12-13)

Because he wants us to obey him – Deut 8:5-6 chasten thee to keep his commandments – look what happened when a son didn’t obey in Deut 21:18-21 his parents were to chasten their son that was a glutton and they were to stone him if he didn’t turn

Because he won’t throw us in hell – 2 Sam 7:14-15 the sure mercies of God include chastening us for iniquity

So:

Don’t push God to the point of wrath – Ps 6:1

Don’t push God till there’s no hope – Prov 19:18
