The Paths of Light, Job 24:13

Ps 25:4 talks about the paths of the Lord.  The verse says, “Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.”  So, the Lord has some paths that we can find in the Bible and these are the paths upon which you and I should walk through this life.  We are preaching about these paths this week.  The first paths that we studied are the paths of life.  Today, we are going to study the paths of light.

A reference to the paths of light is found in Job 24:13 which says, “They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.”  The paths of light are:

The path of light in the gospel of Jesus Christ – 2 Cor 4:4.  God is light. 1 Jn 1:5.  There is no darkness in him.  Satan has transformed himself into an angel of light, 2 Cor 11:14.  Yet, his kingdom is a kingdom of darkness and he is the principle ruler of the darkness of this world, Eph 6:12.  If you are following any other path to heaven besides the path of the gospel of Jesus Christ, you won’t end up in heaven with God, you will end up in outer darkness with the devil.  The gospel of Jesus Christ is light to lead a man away from Satan and darkness to God and light.  Therefore, when a person wants out of darkness, he can come to God through Jesus Christ, Acts 26:18. God will call him out of darkness into his marvelous light, 1 Pet 2:9, through gospel of Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is the way, Jn 14:6.

The path of light in the word of God – Ps 119:130.  There is light in the Bible.  When you read your Bible, God gives you light and understanding.  Ps 119:105, because we still live in the world, though we are not of the world, we need light to guide our steps everyday.  The light in the Bible is more sure than if God were speaking directly to you from heaven, 2 Pet 1:19.  Therefore, you must follow the path of that light every step of your way.

The path of light in the children of God – Eph 5:8-14.  Jesus is the light of the world, Jn 8:12.  But in Jn 9:5, he said, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”  Well, today Jesus is seated in heaven.  Now, we are that light.  We must live as children of light, 1 Thes 5:5. We must shine as lights in the world, so that others can follow us, Phil 2:15.  We must be blameless and harmless and without rebuke.

Conclusion: we have discussed three paths of light.  The path of light in the gospel, the path of light in the Bible, and the path of light in us.  All three are vital.  Through the light of the gospel, lost people can get to God.  The light of the gospel is their path.  Through the light of the Bible, we can live for God.  The light of the Bible is our path.  Through the light in us, this crooked and perverse nation can be reproved.  The light in us is a path for them, to lead them away from the world and to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
