The Power of the Cross 1 Cor. 1:18 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
This sermon is about the power of the cross. We must have the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ because in the Cross is:
The Power of God unto Salvation – 1 Cor 1:18 – this aspect of the cross deals with hell – we are crucified with him so that his death, burial and resurrection save us from our sin, from death and from hell [the enemies he defeated on the cross] – the world thinks the cross is foolishness [that something could be so simple – that I even need a Saviour – that I would even end up in hell] – you cannot save yourself and you cannot be saved apart from the cross
The Power of God unto Separation – Gal 6:14 – this aspect of the cross deals with the world – the only way to be truly separated from the world is to die to the things of the world – attitude, fashion, pleasures, friendship, desires, lusts, recognition, pressure, selfishness, ungodliness, religion – you try to do this on your own and it won’t work.
The Power of God unto Sanctification – Gal 2:20 – this aspect of the cross deals with God – Christ is formed in us [Rom 8:29] – we die that he might live in us – it’s the only way – we can’t both be running these lives – and when trouble comes it is almost impossible to sort out your motives in your reactions [whether they are for you or for him] – he is glorified when we are on the cross and he is alive in us – Jesus is the only one who knows how to glorify God perfectly.
Conclusion: If it weren’t for the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the cross we could not be saved, we could not be separated from the world and we could not be sanctified. Jesus said, “Without me ye can do nothing.”
