The Renewing of Your Mind Romans 12:1- 2 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
According to our text, your transformation as a Christian takes place by the renewing of your mind. Notice that when “man” was made, God “formed” him of the dust [Gen 2:7]. After the fall, we lost our form. That’s why Paul told the Galatians that he travailed “in birth again until Christ be formed in you,” [Gal 4:19]. And that’s why, as Christians, we are predestinated “to be conformed to the image of his Son,” [Rom 8:29]. The process of Christ being formed in us and of us being conformed to his image requires a transformation of our minds.
How do you accomplish the renewing of your mind?
You use your God-given sound mind – 2 Tim 1:7 – according to 1 Cor 2:16 we have the mind of Christ – notice that this mind is contrary to the spirit of fear.
You are not to be double minded – Jas 1:8 – in other words, after receiving the mind of Christ, it is possible to be double minded – to think with the mind of our old man and to think with the mind of our new man – that’s why Paul said in our text, “and be not conformed to this world.”
You are to renew your mind day by day – 2 Cor 4:16 – Paul told the Ephesians to “be renewed in the spirit of your mind,” [Eph 4:23] – so this transformation is not something that takes place all at once when we get saved but is something that we must undergo everyday.
This day by day renewal of your mind requires:
That you love the Lord God with all your mind – Matt 22:37
That you “think on these things” – Phil 4:8
That you serve the law of God with your mind – Rom 7:25
That you become likeminded with other Christians – Rom 15:5 – and that in the process you do not become an unbalanced freak [Rom 12:16].
