The Trees of The Lord Are Full of Sap

The Trees of the Lord are Full of Sap

Psalm 104:16

AUDIO RECORDING OF THIS SERMON

In this sermon we will look at the three basic parts of the tree: the roots, the trunk, and the crown. The tree will be a type of man with the sap being the Holy Spirit.

Individual Parts of a Tree:

1) Roots (Colossians 2:7)

Purpose : Absorb water and minerals from the soil // Store sugar for food // Anchor tree //

                Prevent Soil Erosion

Proverbs 12:3 “A man shall not be stablished by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved”

Proverbs 12:12 “The wicked desireth the net of the evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit”

Good roots require good soil ————- Where are you planted?

Good roots are the life of the tree———What is in you roots?

Good roots anchor the tree—————–Are you secure?

Good roots preserve the soil—————Are you doing anything for Christianity?

2)  Trunk (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Purpose : Supports the Crown // Gives shape and strength to tree // Vessel for nutrients

Parts :  A. Heart Wood – Dead Xylem

              B.  Xylem Sapwood – support, network of cells

C.  Cambium – thin layer of growing tissue, becomes Xylem or more Cambium

               D.  Pholem (inner bark) – carry sap to rest of tree

                E.  Bark – Pholem cells that have died, Suit of armor against world, insects Disease, storms, temperatures, fire.

*Do you have sap? Kick off a little bark and see!

*Must have thick skin for protection — Die to self, it builds character which gives shape and strength.

3)  Crown (2 Peter 1:5-8)

Purpose : Food Factory // Filters Air

*Leaves use the suns energy to convert nutrients from the roots to sugar and oxygen, which affect the tree and those around it.

*Must have sap to transport nutrients to leaves to make food for the tree, which is stored in roots for later use. It is all a big circle.

*Read from sheet on Sap Production.

*Type of the Holy Spirit working in us in connection with Jesus Christ to produce fruit.

(2 Corinthians 4:15-18) Must have pressure for sap to run!

What about the fall when the sap doesn’t run?

*Read from sheet on why leaves turn beautiful colors.

*The colors are always there but you cannot see them until the Sun is gone for a while. Sometimes in our lives Jesus will back off and the Spirit will not be running through us as it was prior. This is where the real colors will come out or lack thereof.

The crown is for God to view and this is where God can really get the glory if we let him!
