Ps 19:1-14 is a wonderful Psalm magnifying the work of God’s words. The first six verses tell of the work of the words [Ps 19:4] of the creation of the Lord, in which the invisible things of him are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made [Rom 1:19-21]. Ps 19:1-6 the heavens declare the glory of God. In the heavens you see and hear the testimony of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, who created them [Jn 1:1-3]. He is the sun of verse 4 [Mal 4:1]. He is the the bridegroom of verse 5 [Eph 5:25-32; Jn 3:29]. He is the strong man to run a race in verse 5 [Heb 12:1-2; Lk 11:20-22]. His circuit typifies the first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and his bloody death [sunset] followed by his burial and resurrection. It also typifies his his second coming with the blood red sunrise [Is 63:1-4] when his garments are stained with blood in the day of vengeance. Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God [Col 1:15-17] and the express image of his person [Heb 1:2-3] and the heavens he made testify of him.
In addition to the creation of the Lord we have six more things concerning the words of God in Ps 19:7-9:
The law of the Lord is perfect – Ps 19:7 – be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect [Matt 5:48].
The testimony of the Lord is sure – Ps 19:7 – we have also a more sure word of prophecy [2 Pet 1:19].
The statutes of the Lord are right – Ps 19:8 – for the word of the Lord is right [Ps 33:4].
The commandment of the Lord is pure – Ps 19:8 – the words of the Lord are pure words [Ps 12:6].
The fear of the Lord is clean – Ps 19:9 – now are ye clean through the word [Jn 15:3]; sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth [Jn 17:17].
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous – Ps 19:9 – thy word is true from the beginning [Ps 119:160] and everyone of thy righteous judgments endureth forever.
Is it any wonder that the devil has attacked the truth of creation and the purity of the words of God? By subtly replacing the doctrine of creation with the theory of evolution and the true words of God in the King James Bible with modern Bibles and the removal of Bibles from schools, the devil has cleverly destroyed the work of the words of God.
For us who believe in God’s creation of the universe and his preservation of his words in the King James Bible, we know that these words:
Warn you – Ps 19:11 – we need to be continually warned in our lives to protect us against all enemies internal and external, physical and spiritual. Can you remember something from your Bible reading recently that warned you and, thus, protected and spared you?
Cleanse you from secret faults – Ps 19:12 – these words cleanse you from sin and faults others don’t even know about and from stuff you may not even be aware of. Are there not faults and sins in your life that God has revealed to you through his words, from which he has since cleansed you?
Keep you back from presumptuous sins – Ps 19:13 – presumptuous sins are sins that you know are wrong even before going into them. Can you remember some presumptuous sins you used to commit from which the Lord now keeps you back?
Make you innocent from the great transgression – Ps 19:13 – the great transgression is the rejection of Jesus Christ, the creator of the universe [Ps 19:1-6; Rom 1:20-25]. Thank God that through the declaration of creation and the revelation of scripture, we called upon the Lord Jesus Christ who has saved us and made us innocent from the great transgression. Have you called upon the name of the Lord to be saved? If not, you are still in the great transgression.
Make your words and meditations acceptable to God – Ps 19:14 – regular reading and believing of the words of God cleans up your mouth and your thoughts and makes them both acceptable to God. Can you not look back on your old thought life and your old way of talking and see great changes that the Lord has made in both of these?
Conclusion: Ps 19:11 says, in keeping of them is great reward. There is indeed a great reward for keeping the words of God. So, don’t let the clever attempts of the devil to pervert these words steal your reward. Keep God’s words and let them continually work in your life.
