Things that cannot be Moved
Hebrews 12:25-29
With all that is going on in the world at present time (October 15th 2023), wars and rumors of wars, political upheaval, crime, natural disasters etc., it is easy to see how someone could be shaken in mind and in spirit. In this sermon we will look at the passage in Hebrews in order to show that God is going to one day shake the heaven and the earth, but that he is still in control and there are somethings that cannot be moved.
Warning from Paul: (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12)
In this passage Paul warns us about being shaken in mind by the day of Christ being at hand. And shows us some of the things that will come to pass as this unfolds. If we as saved people in the church age read the text, study the bible, and keep our heads it will be much easier to not be shaken in mind regarding these things.
God is going to shake heaven and earth:
The second coming of Jesus Christ to this earth will be accompanied by some catastrophic event, especially in the heavens. But we must note that saved people from the Church Age will be raptured out before the seven year tribulation which precedes the second coming of Jesus Christ to this earth. But that being said the second coming will be a terrible day for those going through it.
(Isaiah 2:19 ; Isaiah 13:6-13 ; Matthew 24:27-31 ; Revelations 6:12-17)
Things that cannot be moved:
1) Word of God (Hebrews 12:26-27)
- Jesus said heaven and earth would pass away but my word shall not (Matthew 24:35)
- The word of God cannot be shaken because it does the shaking (Psalm 29 :1-11)
2) The Kingdom of God (Hebrews 12:28)
- God has a kingdom in heaven. It is a spiritual kingdom as well as a physical kingdom. This kingdom will be on earth during the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ and it cannot be moved.
- (Psalm 10:16 ; Psalm 145:13 ; Jeremiah 10:10 ; John 19:36-37 ; Revelation 11:15-19)
3) Those in the Kingdom of God (Hebrews 12:28)
- Note the word “we” in the verse. People saved during the Church Age are baptized into the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-13 : Galatians 3:26-29). As a result of this we are in Christ and therefore spiritually in the Kingdom of God (Colossians 1:12-14).
- Jesus is the rock that we are in and that the church is built on, what is on the rock cannot be shaken (Luke 6:47-49).
- God is the rock and is our salvation as well (Psalm 62:2,6).
Application to us:
We must ask ourselves is there anything solid in us? Both the devil and God shake things up to remove them the question is what is left at the end?
