Walking with God Gen 5:21-24

Walking with God Gen 5: 21-24 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In the Bible we find that when Enoch walked with God. Enoch walked in the:

Fear of God – Gen 5:21-24 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Enoch knew from when Methuselah was named, that God was going to judge the earth.  Methuselah’s name means, “When he is dead, it shall be sent.”  In Jude 15 we see that everyone in Enoch’s day was ungodly.  And from that time until Enoch was taken up, he walked with God in the fear of God.  To walk in the fear of God is, essentially, to walk in full obedience to God.  Two year old children are a perfect example of Christians who struggle to have their own way when God has commanded their obedience.  If we are going to walk with God today, we will have to walk in the fear of God, fully obeying him, without question or hesitation.

Family of God – Lk 3:37-38 Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, …Enos, …Seth, …Adam, which was the son of God.

From this family of men came Noah and Noah and his family were spared in the flood.  Others in this family were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, David and Jesus Christ.  Jay Folk, a pastor in New York, was saved on a Sunday and showed up at work on Monday carrying his Bible.  He knew that he would have to separate from the old crowd and join the new crowd in God’s family.  The trouble is that many of us envy and enjoy sinners.  If we are going to walk with God today, we will have to walk with God’s people and separate from the devil’s crowd.

Favor of God – Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

We must seek to please God, not ourselves.  We have indescribable joy, satisfaction, peace, and assurance when we please God.  You must experience these for yourself.  There is no way to describe what joy there is in pleasing God.  When we walk with God we are in his favor; those who walk contrary to God are not in his favor.

Faith of God – Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him…

Like 2 Cor 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” This comes from continually walking through the pages of this Book, believing what you are reading and walking in the light of what God shows you.  You cannot walk with God if you are not walking by faith in the words of God.

Foreknowledge of God – Jude 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.

As Enoch walked with God, he could see where God was going and was able to see all the way to the Second Coming of Jesus.  You’re never going to make much sense of prophecy if you are not walking with God.  And when you are walking with God you realize that Jesus is coming one of these days soon.  And you also realize that the church and the world are going to continue to get worse and worse before he comes.  The bad news of the world should be no surprise to you.  And the apostasy of the church should not allure you.

Conclusion: if you are not saved, you must trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior if you want to walk with God.  And if you are saved, you are never going to be close to the Lord if you are not walking with him.  Walk with the Lord.
