It’s of the devil.
The ecumenical movement is designed to get religions together that God has separated. God is a divider. As you read through the Bible you see very clearly that God is not interested in getting religions or things or people together. The devil, on the other hand, is very interested in unity and getting things and religions and people together. The more this world comes together with a common language, a common currency, and common interests [social, political, economic, religious, etc.] the further the world gets from God. That is the devil’s objective and it is objective of the ecumenical movement.
Just look what God divided and separated in the Bible:
Gen 1:4 the light from the darkness
Gen 1:7 the waters from the waters with a firmament
Gen 1:14, 18 the day from the night by the sun and the moon
Gen 10:32 the nations in the earth
Ex 26:33 the holy place from the most holy with the veil
Lev 11 the unclean meats from the clean
Num 26:53 the inheritance of the twelve tribes
Deut 32:8 to the nations their inheritance and set the bounds of the people
Matt 25:32 the sheep from the goats
2 Tim 2:15 the word of truth
Heb 4:12 the soul and spirit by the word of God
Gen 11 the languages under Nimrod at the tower of Babel
Gen 12 Abram from his family (Gen 13:9-14)
Gen 25:23 Esau and Jacob
Gen 49:26 Joseph from his brethren
Ex 33:16 the Jews from all the people on the earth (1 Ki 8:53)
Lev 12 women for a period of time after childbirth
Lev 22:2 the priests from the holy things
Num 6 the Nazarites to the Lord
Num 8:14 the Levites from the children of Israel
Deut 19:2 the cities of refuge
Ezra 10:11 the Jews from the people of the land and from strange wives
Acts 13:2 Barnabbas and Paul for the work he called them to
Rom 1:1 Paul unto the gospel
2 Cor 6:17 Christians from the world
Lk 16:26 Hell from Abraham’s bosom
Rev 21:1, 8 Heaven from Hell
Matt 19:27 the disciples from their homes
Lk 6:22 you get separated from the company of men because of Jesus
Is 59:2 your iniquities separate between you and God
Spoil is divided, the Red Sea was divided, Jordan was divided, the five loaves and two fish were divided (Mk 6:41), spiritual gifts are divided (1 Cor 12:11), and Israel was divided into two kingdoms (contrast Eze 37:22 at the 2nd Advent, but the inheritance will still be divided Eze 47:22), Belshazzar’s kingdom was divided in two (Media/Persia, Dan 5:28) and Alexander’s kingdom was divided into four [Dan 11:4]. The Jews were not to plow with an ass and ox together [Deut 22:9-11]; they were not to wear divers garments as wool and linen together; they were not to sow their vineyards with divers seeds; they were to quarantine lepers [Num 5:2].
Cities and homes get divided over the Lord [Lk 12:51-53 (he came to bring division – a sword)]; a city was divided over the gospel [Acts 14:4]; the Pharisees and Sadducees were divided over the resurrection [Acts 23:7].
You can see from this vast amount of scripture, God has separated many things. God is a divider. But the devil tries to put together those things that the Lord has separated and we can’t go along with him. The Lord separated Christians from the world so that we can maintain excellent fellowship with the Lord [2 Cor 6:14-18]. The devil doesn’t want that. God separated nations in the earth for their protection and so that they could find God [Acts 17:26-27]. The devil doesn’t want that. God separated the languages at Babel to keep the nations from getting together and the devil has put them back together with the English language.
Ultimately, the devil wants wealth and power. To get it, he gets the nations together by removing the bounds that God set up between them. Once they get together, he cleans out their treasuries [Is 10:5-14]. And they have no idea how they end up in so much debt [America has over $7 trillion in direct national debt; 33 years ago we didn’t even have a trillion]. While getting rich, he blinds the inhabitants of the nations with the perception of intelligence and wealth so that they want nothing to do with God [2 Cor 4:3-4]. That’s very deceptive [Rev 12:9; Rev 20:8]. Thus, the more ecumenical religions have become, the more apostasy has crept into the church [2 Thes 2:3].
Although the devil is a unifier, he does try to separate the few things that God has put together. He tries to separate husbands from their wives [Matt 19:6]. He does that with temptations that appeal to the lust. The devil tries to separate the body of Christ [Eph 5:30-32; 1 Cor 12:12, 25]. He does this with smooth talking “preachers” [Rom 16:17-18] who get folks together by throwing out the doctrines of God as found in the words of God. The ecumenical movement promotes these preachers and identifies the believers who hold the doctrines of God as divisive. Thus, the ecumenical movement is just the vehicle to accomplish the devil’s purposes against the body of Christ. Jesus said, “Take heed that no man deceive you,” [Matt 24:4].
Hope this helps,
