What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality (Part 2)

In part one of this series we saw some verses from the Old Testament and New Testament clearly showing that homosexuality is a sin by the word of God. We also started looking into the origins of this practice using the Biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah. In this lesson we will connect the origins of this practice back to Satan and give some reasons for why he would promote this kind of sin to mankind and use it against him.

In part one we saw that the regions close to Sodom and Gomorrah were settled by the descendants of Ham through Canaan.  Remember that Canaan was cursed as a result of the sin that Ham had committed with Noah.

Ham had been exposed to the wickedness that was on the earth before the flood that had caused God do destroy everyone except Noah and his family in the first place (Genesis 6:5-7). Now the sin of homosexuality was not named but note that whatever was going on must have been pretty bad because God wiped them out just like he did Sodom and Gomorrah.

Why would Satan have influenced man into this sin to start with?

Before we look at the reason Satan would influence mankind into this sin we must look back at a passage in the New Testament. Remember that in Romans 1:24-28 this sin is said to be against nature. Note the women changed the natural use into that which is against nature, and the men left the natural use of the woman and burned in their lust one toward another.

1)  Attack on Creation (Genesis 1:28 ; 9:1)

  • Both Adam and Noah’s family were given the same commission they were to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.
  • Satan before he fell was connected with the original earth from Genesis 1:1 and had a throne over it (Isaiah 14:12-15). When he fell he lost that earth.
  • In the recreation (Genesis 1:3 – 2:3) God gave control of this earth to Adam. Satan immediately went after him and got him to sin then corrupted man to the point that God destroyed him in the flood of Noah’s day.
  • Soon after Noah gets off the ark Satan comes along and gets Ham to commit sin with him and here we go all over again.

Satan hates mankind because he was given what he had, this earth. Satan will do everything in his power to destroy God’s creation. Homosexuality is against nature and Satan uses it as an attack on creation. Remember man original purpose was to recreate, the plants and animals reproduce and so does a man and woman which is what God created. One of the ways you know that homosexuality is against nature is that a man with a man or a woman with a woman cannot reproduce. This is also how you know that God does not make people homosexual regardless of what some Christians say today.

2)  Satan is the Father of Rebellion (John 8:44)

  • In the above verse Jesus is telling the Jews that they are of their father the devil and that they will do the lust of him.
  • Now this is speaking spiritually of course but it still applies to everyone today. When you are born again you become a child of God but before that, spiritually you are of your father the devil.
  • Sin in a simplified form is just Rebellion against the word of God.
  • Since the family was the first institution that God placed on the earth in regards to mankind (Genesis 2:23-24), then it seems obvious that Satan will attack it.
  • If God’s proper institution is for man and woman to marry and reproduce then direct rebellion for this would be for men and men or women and women to start trying to be a family. This ties back to Romans 1:24-28 as against Nature. Men with men and women with women are not a natural family.
  • What is really interesting is that when we look at Satan’s fall he fell through pride. Rebellion will always be connected to pride in some form. In Ezekiel 16:49 we see that one of Sodom’s problems was pride. Therefore it is no surprised that the sin of homosexuality has generated so much about pride today. They have pride marches and months that they celebrate all over our country.

Whether it is Satan attacking God’s creation or getting man to rebel through pride against the order that God established it is clear that the origin of this sin will be connected to Satan trying to get man to destroy himself, or God to destroy man for this sin. Satan doesn’t care as long as he gets what he wants in the end.
